Over the river and through the woods...

We got our holiday season started with a trip to grandma G's in VA this past weekend.  We decided to leave at 5 pm in hopes that j would just sleep the whole way and we wouldn't have to stop every couple of hours.  The plan worked...sort of.

The trip there hit a few road bumps.  Most of them because of me.  T likes to say j handled the trip better than I did, whatever.  My first mistake was to not fill up the tank earlier in the day which T was not happy about.  We ended up stopping two hours into the trip which worked out perfectly because I just nursed j and he was fine until our next stop.  About 4 hours into the trip, I wasn't feeling too well.  I will give T credit, he did ask if I wanted him to stop.  I've never puked in the car before and j was sleeping so I said no, big mistake.  Ten minutes later I was puking in a bag.  T had his head out the window gagging, Duke was trying to get into the back seat (we had him riding shotgun to see if he'd be more comfortable) to comfort me, and j (bless his ever lovin' heart) was awake and squeezing my arm.  Needless to say, we stopped.  Really it was for the best.  I barely got an ounce when I pumped in the car so we would've had to stop for me to nurse anyway.  The rest of the trip there was uneventful.  We got there in 8 1/2 hours which is pretty good considering we had a 6 mo old with us.

I was nervous about how j was going to handle being away from home.  He did great.  Naps were a little off the first day but, he was napping fine the second day.  I was a bit nervous that he wasn't going to sleep in the pack n play because he refused to do it during the power outages.  He adjusted to that well, too.  He did great with everything actually.  He wouldn't eat any solids, but he's dropped interest in eating solids in general so that's not a big deal.

We found time to visit Auntie B and Uncle Chris at Rube Tuesday.  j wasn't at his best, but wasn't at his worst.

What an awful pic of me.  I think I look way cuter in real life.  When we got home, T said it looked like I had a bruise on my chin.  After some thought, we think it's actually a hickey from j.  His teething is in full swing and he likes to chew on my chin.  Apparently he likes to suck on my chin, too.  That's a story we'll keep from him as he gets older.

We decided to drive home at night, too.  We tried to mimic the normal bedtime routine in hopes it would get j ready for a good nights sleep.  Grandma G enjoyed watching bathtime...

...and tried to fit in some snuggle time before we left.

I called the doctor to make sure that Dramamine was ok to take while nursing so the drive home was far less puke filled, thank goodness.
